Chairman – Conference Organizing Committee (STUNA 2018)
Past Chairman – NIPM, Karnataka Chapter
NIPM, Karnataka Chapter had a Unique distinction of hosting the first ever National Conference for the Management Students (STUNA 2018). It was held on 9th March 2018 at Christ University. This conference was an astounding success for NIPM, considering the fact that nearly 900 students from all over the country had participated in it. The objective of this conference was to support the students to refresh their skills and support them in smooth transition from Classroom to the Corporate World.
Personally for me, it was a great achievement as NIPM had entrusted me with the responsibility of the role of Chairman for the Conference Organizing Committee. Being a first of its kind, the Conference became a huge success in every aspect and kept the NIPM's flag flying very high. Secondly, the unique feature of this conference was engaging and involving students volunteer to be part of Organizing Committee and making them lead from the front. Undoubtedly, this Conference had made a huge impact and ignited many young minds. The cascading effect was that 5 Students Chapters of NIPM were opened by the Karnataka Chapter. This number would go up really high in the coming months.
Conference Theme and Structure
It was important for the students to understand as to how the current corporate world looks like. Secondly, considering the way in which turbulent times are impacting every business, it was imperative for the students know the complexities of the business world and start gearing them well in advance to have a smooth transition to the corporate world.
Further, it would also support in removing some of the myths which students may carry about the career. These include:
Keeping this in mind, while conceptualizing this theme, we had focused upon the following areas:
The entire Conference theme was categorized into 4 sessions with various themes. This included:
Over all 13 speakers were invited for the Conference and all the speakers were able to articulate very well by sharing their experience and success. The overall feedback received for the conference was excellent and NIPM is already looking at STUNA 2019.
“Choosing the right career is like being a Sprinter, but at the same time you need to be a marathoner”
Choosing career is not about getting a Job. It is about sustaining it for longer period of time. Similarly, education and experience is safe to get a job. But to be successful in any job, the students need to make sure that their education and experience exhibit 'employability skills'.
So choosing right career is like being a Sprinter, but at the same time to sustain and being successful in a career in a Marathon Effort. Hence everyone need to be a marathoner!!
Remember 'You are the CEO of your Career'
I had an opportunity of speaking in many Conferences / Seminars / forums on the topic of Career. One thing I make it a point to communicate to everyone is that they are the CEO of their Career even though they work for someone else. Remember your career is your business and you must manage and run your career as though you are an entrepreneur. Once you begin to see your career as a business, your clarity of thought becomes unambiguous. You in turn start actively getting to understand and start seeking to bridge your skills gaps thereby establishing yourself as an expert in the area of interest and start setting the career goals to achieve.
When you get up every morning you have two choices:
The choice is yours. Success in career is like reaching moon. So shoot the Moon, even if you miss, you will land up among the stars.
